Working draft. A pre-launch draft, still under review. The Direct Debit Authority you complete when you set up payment is the binding version.
What you're authorising
By setting up a direct debit, you authorise Tīrama Energy Limited to debit your nominated bank account for the amounts you owe under your customer terms, normally your monthly bill, on or after the due date, and to instruct your bank to accept those debits. You confirm the account details you give us are correct and that you're authorised to operate that account.
Notice we'll give you
We'll send you each bill before the payment is taken, so you always know the amount and date in advance. If we ever need to change the amount, date, or frequency of a debit, we'll give you clear notice beforehand. We won't take a payment you haven't been told about.
Your rights
- Cancel or change any time. You can cancel the authority, or change your account, by telling us, please give us a few business days before your next bill so the change lands in time. You can also cancel through your bank.
- Stop a payment. You can ask your bank to reverse a direct debit; conditions and timeframes are set by your bank.
- Fix a mistake. If we ever debit an amount that's wrong, tell us and we'll put it right promptly. Where a debit was made in error, you're entitled to a refund from your bank under the direct debit rules.
Your bank's part
Your bank operates the direct debit under its own terms and the standard direct debit rules. It may decline to process a debit, and it isn't obliged to check the amount against your bill. If you dispute a debit, your bank will work through it with you and, where needed, with us.
If a payment doesn't go through
If a debit is dishonoured (for example, insufficient funds), we'll let you know and arrange another attempt or an alternative. Please keep your account funded on the due date. If you're having trouble paying, contact us early. The support in our Consumer Care Policy applies, and we won't rush to disconnection.
