For landlords

tīrama owns the hardware, pays for the install, and removes the battery when the agreement ends. What we need from you is a signed consent form and reasonable access for the install day.

What it is

Your tenant signs an electricity supply agreement with us, and we install a battery at the property as part of it. You are not the contracting party, you don't sign for the energy, and you don't take on any cost. The install happens at your property, so we need your consent.

What we install

One wall-mounted lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, about 1.96 m tall, 640 mm wide and 200 mm deep. Mounted on an outside wall of the property. A small breaker is added at the switchboard.

What the install covers

The battery system and a small breaker at the switchboard. If the hot water cylinder is not already on a controlled circuit, the electrician moves it onto one, and it stays on that circuit. No switchboard upgrade is needed. If the meter needs replacing, our metering provider replaces it.

Who owns it

tīrama, the whole way through. The battery stays ours and comes out when the agreement ends. It never stays with the property.

Who pays for it

tīrama pays for the battery and the install. There is no charge of any kind to the property owner, and nothing changes in the rent.

The process

You hear from us once at the start, once before install, and once at the end. The rest sits between us and your tenant.

01

Tenant signs up

Your tenant joins tīrama through the standard sign-up. As part of their application, we flag the property as rented and request their landlord's contact.

02

We email you the pack

You receive a consent form, a technical brief showing what's installed and where, and a copy of tīrama's public liability insurance certificate. You sign or you say no.

03

Install day

A licensed electrician does the install, usually in one visit. We coordinate access directly with your tenant; you don't need to be there.

04

End of term or tenancy

When your tenant ends their tīrama agreement, or moves out, we remove the battery. Wall fixings made good and the area returned to how it was before the install. You receive a confirmation email.

What we ask of you

Written sign-off on the install

A signed copy of our consent form. Download it below, or we'll email it to you with the landlord pack.

Reasonable access on install day

Your tenant arranges this with us: you don't need to be present. We give 10 business days' notice in advance.

Pass on tenant changes

If the tenancy ends or changes hands, let us know via the email on the pack. We coordinate retrieval or transfer directly with the outgoing tenant.

Don't disconnect us without notice

If you need to do electrical work at the property, give us 5 business days' notice so we can power down safely.

If you sell

Tell us before settlement and leave the battery off the chattels in the sale. We can remove it before settlement at no cost to you.

No other costs

No co-signature on the energy agreement. No personal liability for the hardware. No charges. No ongoing obligations once the battery is removed.

Solar

Solar panels on a rental are yours, fixed to the title. tīrama buys the power your panels make at a published rate, and pays you monthly.

The buyback agreement runs alongside your tenant's battery agreement but is contracted directly with you as the property owner.
